ActiveXperts Network Monitor is a software solution you need to scan your network servers, workstations and devices for failures or irregularities. With ActiveXperts Network Monitor, you can identify issues and fix unexpected problems before your others even know they've happened.
ActiveXperts Network Monitor maximizes network availability by monitoring all aspects of your servers, workstations, switches, routers, printers and any other devices. It can also detect temperature, humidity and other environmental aspects in your server rooms.

The File Transfer Protocol, commonly known as FTP, is a protocol made popular by the public Internet. FTP, as the name implies, allows files of any type to be transferred between a server and a client across a TCP/IP network. If this were the only functionality that FTP provided, it would have been rendered completely obsolete by the HTTP protocol. However, FTP provides for additional functionality that the HTTP protocol does not explicitly accommodate: file and directory management.

Use ActiveXperts Network Monitor to check the availability of an FTP server or FTP site. You can pass credentials (login and password) to access an FTP site. For anonymous access, specify 'anonymous' in the 'Account' field, and specify a valid e-mail address in the 'Password' field. With the FTP check, you can check for a file in one of the subdirectories on the FTP server, and check for a specific pattern in the file.

An FTP check takes the following parameters:

  • Host - Hostname or IP address of the remote FTP server. If the remote FTP server is listing on a port other than 21, you can append it to the host, like this: 192.168.0.1:23
  • Passive - Specifies the way ActiveXperts Network Monitor establishes a connection with the FTP server: in Passive mode or in Active mode. Default: Passive;
  • FTP Account - Account used to access the FTP server. You cannot leave it blank. If the FTP server allows anonymous access, you must specify 'anonymous' in the 'Account field' and a valid e-mail address in the 'Password' field;
  • FTP Password - Account used to access the FTP server. If the FTP server allows anonymous access, you must specify 'anonymous' in the 'Account field' and a valid e-mail address in the 'Password' field;
  • Anonymous - If the FTP server allows anonymous access, you can click on this check box to enter credentials automatically in the 'Account' and 'Password' fields. The 'Anonymous' property is not used by the engine;
  • Check Connectivity / Check File Existence - If you want to check availability only, you should select 'Check Connectivity' here. If you want to check for existence of a particular file, you must select 'Check File Existence';
  • Directory - If you check for file existence, you can specify a working directory where the file, indicated by the 'File' field, should be located. Leave it blank to use the root of the FTP site as the working directory;
  • File - The file you want to check in the directory indicated by the 'Directory' field;
  • Use binary file transfer - Indicates how the file should be transferred to the local Temp directory so it can be analyzed. Note: after the file has been analyzed, it will be deleted automatically from the Temp directory;
  • Pattern should match / Pattern should not match - If the pattern is matched, then the result of the check can be either success or error./li>
